Nga Waka Pirinoa Block Pinot Noir 2022

The first Nga Waka vines were planted in Martinborough over thirty years ago, while the fruit for our Pirinoa Block Pinot Noir, this single-vineyard and single-clone wine, were first planted in 2000. We tasted and assessed a range of options before settling on just three outstanding barrels to craft this wine. The Dijon clone 667 was selected; it has a fitting reputation for intense flavours and integrated textures. It delivered on all fronts, with spice, berry and savoury characters tantalising the palate, while elegant mouthfeel and fine tannins follow through on the finish. The 20-plus- year-old vines add texture, depth and complexity. This wine will improve further under sound cellaring conditions for 4-6 years and will provide pleasurable drinking for many years thereafter.
