Nga Waka Chardonnay 2021
$30.00 inc. GST
Our Nga Waka Chardonnay is 100% barrel fermented in tight-grain French oak barriques, 20% of which are new. The wine spends 10 months in barrel and is lees-stirred monthly.
A rich, complex Martinborough Chardonnay showing intense ripe stone fruit flavours underpinned by subtle spicy oak, malolactic and barrel fermentation characters, enhanced by a silky palate texture and a elegant lingering finish.
4.5 stars – Michael Cooper
This is a consistently rewarding wine. The youthful 2021 vintage was fermented and matured for 10 months in French oak barriques (20 per cent new). Bright, light yellow/green, it is mouthfilling and creamy-textured, with ripe stonefruit flavours, gentle biscuity notes, very good complexity and a finely balanced, savoury finish. Already enjoyable, it should be at its best 2024+.

An elegant, complex bouquet with aromas of fresh peach and apple flesh, baked brazil nut and vanilla spice. There’s a mix of fine lees and new wood scents adding breadth and additional complexity. A fine satin texture touches the palate first then a rush of fruit and wood spice. After 1 minute in glass the flavours transition to quince and grapefruit with layers of soil, silty soil with fine grained tannins, a whisper of mandarin peel and medium+ acidity. Balanced and well made with a lengthy finish. Best drinking from 2023 through 2029.
92 points – Bob Campbell MW
Restrained and rather elegant chardonnay with white peach, nutty oak, ginger and toasty yeast lees flavours supported by fine peppery tannins and vibrant acidity to give a pleasantly dry finish.
